We have prepared for you an experience filled with the best of what the beautiful village of Meemure has to offer. Treks through the jungle, discovering hidden waterfalls and testing your endurance in a series of water-based adventure activities. We will spend the night under the open sky in a well-equipped campsite with delicious aromatic barbeque meals and a warm glowing campfire.

Known as one the most remote villages in Sri Lanka, Meemure is located bordering the Kandy and Matale districts. The population of the village is approximately 420, and it can only be accessed via one road. As a result of this, the village has remained isolated and has maintained a very traditional culture dating back 500 years. 

The closest city to Meemure is Hunnasgiriya which is 40km away. The road from Hunnasgiriya to Meemure is paved with breathtaking views of thick green jungles,  hills and towering mountains and waterfalls.

The meals we have prepared for you are all using ingredients that are cultivated in the village and homes of the villagers and also sourced from the nearby jungles.

We recommend you leave the ordinary behind and take a break from civilization. Opt for our campsite accommodation where you can experience freedom from the constraints and limits of modern life. We can also provide guest house accommodation if preferred.

A Hunt for Waterfalls at Meemure

Take a relaxing hike through a beautiful location blessed with the beauty and wonder of nature. Join us for a day with nature. Sri Lanka is bountiful in locations with beautiful natural surroundings. Our country has been gifted with mountains, forests and oceans filled with opportunities to witness the wonder of nature firsthand. 

The Horton Plains National Park in Ohiya is a protected area and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site on 30th July 2010 because of the large number of endemic flora and fauna species there. It is the coldest and windiest location in Sri Lanka. Horton Plains consists of an ecosystem such as montane evergreen forests, grasslands, marshy lands and an aquatic ecosystem. This plateau is positioned at an altitude of 2100 – 2300 metres is rich in biodiversity and many of the species found here are endemic to the region. Horton Plains is spread across over 3169 hectares of the highest tableland of the island. 

The montane forest of Horton Plains is the primary source of three major rivers of Sri Lanka, the Mahaweli river the longest river in Sri Lanka, the Walawe river and the Kelani river.

Something amazing to look forward to is standing at the top of Worlds end. The World's End is an escarpment that has a fall of a sheer 900 meters. 

The destination of most hikers is Worlds End. The main trek taking a circular route can be enjoyed over 3 hours and the trail opens up with an expansive panoramic view of flora, bare patina grassland, and densely wooded cloud forests. 

At a distance of mere 200 metres beyond World’s End, the trek turns off the ridge inland to another lovely attraction: Baker’s fall named after Samuel Baker. The most often sighted wildlife at Horton Plains are herds of Sambar Deer. 

Among the other mammals in the park are Stripe necked Mongoose, Long Tailed Giant Squirrel Wild Boar, the endemic Bear Monkey and Toque Monkey. When the hikers reach the summit of Worlds End, they can enjoy the panoramic view of mountain ranges and also when they look down from Worlds End they can see Balangoda Town, another ancient city in Sri Lanka.

Horton Plains National Park

A Hike through the Nature Trail of Horton Plains

Some of your best memories are made in hiking shoes.

We’re here with an opportunity for you to hike up Kirigalpotta Mountain which is the 2nd highest mountain in Sri Lanka. Standing at 2,388 m (7,835 ft) above mean sea level,  this mountain is the highest mountain in the country whose summit is accessible to the general public. This 14 km (both ways) trail will take about 6 hours of mountaineering, trekking and hiking.

Our trek begins at Horton Plains National Park. Feel the thrill of hiking up the mountain via a single overgrown trail with several difficult hiking and mountaineering sections. Pass through scenic grass plains, cloud forests, bogs and steep rocky surfaces. Discover the exceedingly beautiful nature and varied wildlife in Horton Plains and Kirigalpoththa. Enjoy lunch surrounded by the mountains. Take photographs of the best views, better than the view from World’s End. 

The best view is from the ledge just before the summit. The view from the actual peak cannot compare to it, but the path drops away to cliffs on both sides which is quite thrilling!

This is a 7km hike that is so difficult and treacherous that one in nine hikers are not able to finish the trek to the peak. Best attempted by the toughest and most experienced hikers. This hike is recommended from January to March but is also available from June to August.

If you are not sure if you can overcome the mountain, try our nature trail hike through Horton Plains for a similar but easier experience. 

Hike to the summit of Kirigalpoththa Mountain

Spend one day with us and we’ll give you an experience to take with you for all the rest of your days. 

Come to Kalupahana, the home of Bambarakanda Falls and Lanka Falls which are two of the most beautiful waterfalls in Sri Lanka. Join us on this hike along an adventurous trek and it will give you an opportunity to see the highest waterfall in Sri Lanka, Bambarakanda Falls, which has a height of 241 metres and has been recognized as the 299th highest waterfall in the world. Kalupahana is the nearest town to these two waterfalls. (5km away)

The path to these two waterfalls in itself gives hikers an awe-inspiring experience because it has mesmerising sceneries and has a gentle breeze blowing over it. The path makes its way across a dramatic landscape with massive mountain ranges and Pine Forests. Be careful as you navigate through the Pine forests as the Pine leaves tend to make the floor slippery at times. After just a few miles of trekking, you will reach the base of the Bambarakanda Falls. Here, hikers can experience the continuous spray of icy water with the cold breeze and breathtaking view. Especially during the dry season, the rocks of this waterfall form a perfect friendly pool where hikers can enjoy a bath at the edge of the highest waterfall in Sri Lanka.

After trekking through the Pine trees, the hikers will see the Lanka Falls. The Lanka Fall got its name from the shape of the base pool of the fall as it resembles the tear-drop shape of Sri Lanka. Hikers will be visually surrounded by rocks and the beauty of the Lanka Falls. We caution hikers to not be tempted by the water in the pool at the base of Lanka Falls as it is too dangerous for swimming due to the depth of the water.

Kalupahana, Haputale

Wangedigala and Wangedigala mountain are located near a beautiful village called Kalupahana. 

Some interesting facts about the name Wangedigala. It was given this name due to the pestle shaped peak of the mountain. The sinhalese word for pestle is wangedi. And the word wangedi-gala is a direct translation of the phrase “Pestle Rock”. 

Wangedigala and Wangedigala Mountain are two different peaks which most locals as well as Tourist hikers consider as the same peak. Wangedigala is a rock platform on the left side of the mountain that resembles a large stage and offers an exquisite view of the surrounding area.

Hiking through the Pine forest of Wangedigala, hikers can witness the beauty of mountain ranges around them and breathtaking sceneries of Bambarakanda Falls and Lanka Falls which fall from the mountain neighbouring Wangedigala. Hikers will have a thrilling experience of crossing Bambarakanda Falls via a rope bridge.

We will be trekking through many stretches of forest which grow Pine trees. The needles (leaves) of the Pine tree are very slippery to tread on so be cautious when hiking these paths.
